The wholly-owned Norseman project contains contains the Callisto Discovery and adjacent regional prospects Jimberlana and Mission Sill with potential for palladium, platinum, nickel, copper, cobalt and rhodium mineralisation. Galileo’s tenure at Norseman comprises exploration and prospecting licenses covering a total area of 278 km².

The project is located only 10km from the Western Australian town of Norseman with excellent infrastructure, including gas, water and electricity facilities, as well as access to road and rail. The deep-water Port of Esperance is two hours south of Norseman along the Coolgardie-Esperance highway.

Galileo has been involved with the Norseman project since 2006 as a private company and is now accelerating its exploration and development activities as a public company. 

Callisto Discovery

In May 2022, Galileo conducted a drilling campaign at the Callisto prospect targeting a mineralised sulphide unit at the base of an ultramafic sill where it intrudes into a package of sedimentary rocks.

The drilling successfully encountered the target which was richly endowed with palladium-platinum-copper-nickel-sulphide.

Of the six holes, drill hole NRC266 recorded the widest interval of sulphide mineralisation:

• 33m @ 2.05 g/t 4E (1.64 g/t Pd, 0.28 g/t Pt, 0.09g/t Au, 0.05 g/t Rh), 0.32% Cu & 0.30% Ni from 144m 

Interpretation of results from Callisto have shown similarities with South Africa’s Platreef deposits which consist of disseminated sulphide mineralisation hosted in the lower unit of a layered ultramafic sill.

Drill assays were subsequently analysed to include the presence of rhodium. These metals also occur in the Platreef deposits in a similar disseminated mineralisation style and in a similar host rock. 

Following the initial discovery at Callisto, Galileo has continued to conduct followup exploration which has identified further mineralisation dipping to the east and north. 

In 2023, Galileo revealed a new sulphide zone discovery at Callisto completely open to the north and east with widest drill intersection to date of 72m of disseminated nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation on the northernmost drill line. 

The results supported Galileo’s theory the five-kilometres of untested strike length to the north of Callisto was highly prospective for further discoveries. 

Galileo also discovered a new mineralised zone of platinum group elements (PGE) 600m north of Callisto and which has been found to occur within a high magnesium ultramafic rock that is separate and unique from the rock which hosts Callisto.

The discovery highlights the potential for “reef style” PGE mineralisation at Norseman and is another example of the highly prospective nature of the region which continues to unearth major discoveries – many of which are “blind” and under cover. 

In addition, Galileo has reported highly encouraging metallurgical test work from Callisto, showing the disseminated sulphide mineralisation responds very well to sulphide flotation at industry standard conditions. 

Geological similarities to South Africa’s Platreef palladium-platinum deposits

The Callisto target shows similarities in mineralisation style to the Platreef deposits on the northern limb of the Bushveld Complex, South Africa. Platreef mineralisation is contained within disseminated sulphides of less than 1% and up to 25% with rare massive sulphide. 

Callisto drilling to date has intercepted disseminated sulphide with harzburgite and pyroxenite rock types similar to the Platreef deposits which are very large in nature and have combined indicated resources of >700Mt at a 1 g/t 3PGE + Au cut off (Reference: Platreef Integrated Development Plan 2020. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd) 

Contained metals at Platreef and Callisto both include palladium, platinum, gold, rhodium, copper, and nickel.
